MISSOULA — Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook chief operating officer, will headline the 2013 Montana Economic Development Summit, U.S. Sen. Max Baucus announced Thursday.
Sandberg will be the headliner for the summit in September at the Montana Technology Enterprise Center in Butte.
“When it comes to big names, they don’t get much bigger than Sheryl Sandberg and Facebook. Having a business leader of Sheryl’s caliber in Big Sky Country will help put Montana on the map as a growing hub for technology and innovation,” Baucus said in a news release.
Sandberg was on Time Magazine’s The World’s 100 Most Influential People of 2012 list.
She will be joined at the summit by ConocoPhillips Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ryan Lance, Oracle President and Chief Financial Officer Safra Catz and Boeing Chief Executive Officer Jim McNerney.
Baucus has been traveling the state this week for his Montana Solutions Jobs Tour, announcing summit headliners along the way.
Sandberg’s first book, “Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead,” was released in March.
According to release from Baucus’ office, Sandberg previously served at the World Bank and chief of staff for the U.S. Treasury Department. In 2001, Sandberg joined Google as a vice president of global online sales and operations, where she oversaw sales of Google’s advertising and publishing products and launched Google’s philanthropic arm.
Sandberg has been the chief operating officer of Facebook since 2008. She was appointed to the board of directors in 2012 serving as its first female board member, the release said.
Organized by Baucus and aimed at creating jobs by helping Montana business owners make connections, this year’s summit will be held at the Montana Tech Campus in Butte.
